Most flights to Hawaii leave from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, unless you're flying with Jetstar or Qantas which may use Melbourne Avalon Airport.

Melbourne Tullamarine is 20 to 35 minutes from the city by car, taxi or express bus. Most international flights operate out of Terminal 2, except for Virgin Australia which uses Terminal 3 and low-cost carriers that fly out of Terminal 4. Melbourne Avalon uses a single terminal for all departing flights.

While waiting for your flight at Tullamarine, you can make use of facilities such as free Wi-Fi and showers, get a bite to eat at the dining venues and make duty-free purchases. The airport is open 24 hours a day.

Honolulu arrivals

Honolulu International is the gateway to Hawaii, located on the island of Oahu. It's 8km from Honolulu and 13km to the beaches and resorts of Waikiki.

All international flights arrive at the Overseas Terminal on level 2. After picking up your bags, you can browse the souvenir shops and other facilities or follow the signs to ground transport.

Taxis take just 10 minutes to Honolulu or 15 minutes to Waikiki, but the fare can cost up to US$50. A cheaper option is taking a bus transfer with TheBus, which leaves a few times per hour and costs US$2.50. You can also rent a car at the airport.
