Departing from Cairns
Cairns Airport (CNS) is a great little airport, and you can get to domestic and international destinations from here quite easily. Duck into the shops that litter the concourse, or relax in one of the restaurants before you fly. Cash machines are available in the airport, as well as currency exchange in the international side of the airport. WiFi access is available to passengers wanting to connect to friends and family.
Move between the airport’s two terminals easily via its 250m walkway.
Arrive at the airport 2 hours before an international flight.
Arriving in Bangkok
Two airports serve the city of Bangkok, and these are: Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). However, if you are flying from Cairns, it is almost certain you will fly into Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. This is a larger facility, with more features, though you’ll find that both airports provide access to bureau de change services, ATMs, free WiFi, as well as an excellent selection of cafés, coffee houses, Thai restaurants, and international eateries. There is a good selection of duty-free outlets too, pharmacies, and medical services.
One main terminal makes up Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, so you will not need to transfer here. Whilst Don Mueang International Airport has two terminals linked via a shuttle service.
If you take a taxi from either airport, you will need to be prepared for it to take 30-90 minutes, though the fare is usually reasonable—often between 300-500THB ($11-19). If you don’t want to take public transportation, but don’t want to pay taxi prices either, then book an airport transfer online.
Book a car online and in advance for the best priced deals, or approach one of the agencies in the arrivals section of both airports.
