Departing from Sydney

Sydney Airport (SYD) is Australia’s busiest and best-connected airport. It has 3 terminals:

  • Terminal 1 is dedicated to international travel
  • Terminal 2 is used by Rex and other airlines for domestic flights
  • Terminal 3 is exclusive to Qantas and QantasLink for domestic flights

For domestic flights to Newcastle, it’s recommended that you get to Terminal 2 at least 60 minutes before you fly.

In Terminal 2, you’ll find departure gates in 2 wings. The majority of food outlets are found between these, but each wing has a few options too. Shops are found in the centre and to the left as you enter the terminal.

Although Newcastle Airport (NTL) is the 2nd busiest airport in New South Wales, it is far smaller than its counterpart in Sydney.

NTL has a single terminal for all flights. As you enter the terminal, you’ll immediately come to the baggage carousels. This area also has toilets, vending machines and tourist information. There’s a free-to-use phone you and pick up to arrange a taxi, although these are also available outside the terminal.

A public bus, route 130, is also available, but this only comes once an hour. Car hire is also available at Newcastle Airport.
