Where to Hire a Car at Gold Coast Airport
Several established car hire brands including Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, and Redspot operate rental desks conveniently located near the domestic arrivals exit, opposite the Gold Coast Tourism Information Counter. These car rental companies will ask for a driver's licence or an International Drivers' Permit, as well as other related documents. The representative/s may also ask for either cash or credit card, depending on their preferred modes of payment.

Driving from Gold Coast Airport
Due to its location on the border between Queensland and New South Wales, it is natural to expect that Gold Coast Airport is situated between busy crossroads. Its location along the eastern coast of Australia has also made the surrounding area become criss-crossed with side streets. The major roads, however, are the M1/Pacific Motorway and the Gold Coast Highway.
Upon leaving the airport, you can fill up with more gasoline through the following petrol stations: Brian's Auto Centre (Miami QLD, which lies past Palm Beach on the Gold Coast Highway), Freedom Fuels Varsity Lakes (Varsity Lakes QLD, left of Burleigh Waters), and Woolworths Petrol (Southport QLD, just across Minnie St., in front of Ferry Rd). Several BP stations can also be found in the area (Tugun QLD, Helensvale QLD, and Biggera Waters QLD), as well as a Caltex Station (Robina QLD).
Toll roads, on the other hand, are located in the greater Brisbane area, which is relatively a bit far from the airport. They can be found at Brisbane's northern suburbs, as well as in Bowen Hills, Kedron, and Toombul. Congestion charges are also not available in the city, allowing for ease of travel in the area. Cycling roads can also be found at the Gold Coast Highway cycle lanes.

This small town in New South Wales makes a quieter alternative to the bright lights of Brisbane. The spectacular beaches along the coast, as well as the cultural vibe of the town, adds a relaxing vibe to the place. It might get crowded at times, but the ambling atmosphere makes it a great place for a tranquil stay. Within reach by an hour or so, about 92 kilometres away from the airport, is Byron Bay. The roads going here are the M1, from where Ewingsdale Rd will diverge from. Taking this road will take you to some small-town attractions and plenty of parking space, such as in the Tallow Beach Car Park, Lawson St. North Car Park, and Discovery Holiday Parks. From here, you can check out the town and the beaches, or venture to Arakwal National Park.
