Departing from Broome

Broome Airport (BME) until recently offered international flights, but currently only caters to domestic travellers. It has a single terminal for all its flights, with a mix of small and large airlines using its facilities.

From the centre of Broome, it’s less than a 5-minute drive to the airport. From Cable Beach, this may take 10 minutes, although you can also catch a bus from the northern end of the beach.

Whichever way you choose to get to the airport, it’s recommended that you give yourself an hour to check-in, drop your bags and pass through security.

Although Melbourne has 2 airports, all flights from Broome land at Melbourne Airport (MEL) in Tullamarine. This is the biggest airport in Melbourne and indeed the 2nd busiest in Australia (after Sydney Airport).

The airport is 22km from the airport, which takes around 20 minutes by road in good traffic. While car hire and taxis are available at the terminal, it’s cheaper to get a SkyBus shuttle. You have the option of 3 routes: to the CBD, to the Docklands and to St Kilda.
