Brisbane airport departure information

If you have booked an early airline ticket from Brisbane to Guangzhou, you may need to stay in a hotel near the airport overnight. If so, consider booking a hotel. On the day of your departure, make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the airport, as you need to be there at least 90 minutes before your international flight. You will be required to have a current passport with you, one that has at least six months’ validity left on it.

Brisbane airport is located around 12km from the CBD. To get there, you might like to drive your own vehicle and park on site. If so, you can take advantage of the various options available, including Valet. There are also short-term and long-term car parks, with some undercover and some open-air lots. Nearby suburbs are also home to airport parking facilities. While these can be a little cheaper overall, do keep in mind that they’re located further away from the terminal, and you will need to leave yourself extra time to get to the airport as a result.

If you don’t want to drive, you can take a taxi; organise a private car transfer; hop on the Airtrain (this service runs every 15 minutes during peak times); or catch a public bus from in and around the city.

While you wait to travel to Guangzhou from Brisbane, you may wish to enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants, cafes and food-court outlets at the terminal, or have a drink at one of the bars. If you feel like shopping, or need to pick up some last-minute items, you can browse through the variety of stores in the International terminal too. The building features both franchise and boutique stores, plus news outlets, ATMs, bathrooms, baby change facilities, water fountains and more.

Guangzhou airport arrivals

On arrival at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, you’re sure to see straight away how bustling the terminal is. Baiyun is the second busiest airport in China, and the 16th busiest in the world. It sees more than 50 million passengers coming through each year. As such it has many facilities on offer. These include business centres, banks, ATMs, foreign currency exchange, a medical room, water dispensers, children’s play rooms, baby change rooms, bathrooms, left luggage facilities, a post office, and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal.

In addition, you’ll also find plenty of cafes and restaurants within the international terminal, providing both Chinese and Western food options. If you’d like to do some shopping before you leave the airport, you’ll have many choices – the terminal houses duty-free stores, plus retailers selling clothing, books, electrical appliances, jewellery, craft items, leather goods, cosmetics and more.

To make your way from the airport to the Guangzhou city centre, take a taxi, an Airport Express bus, a hotel shuttle bus, the subway, or an intercity bus. You can also choose to hire a car ahead of time to save some money and ensure you secure the type of vehicle you require.

Keep in mind when travelling from Brisbane to Guangzhou that the Chinese city is two hours behind Queensland, so you will need to adjust your watch and other devices accordingly.

When it comes to costs of living, Guangzhou tends to be less expensive than Brisbane. The average price of a meal from an inexpensive restaurant is $20 in Brisbane, versus only around $2.20 in Guangzhou.
