Though pretty compact, Townsville Airport has decent facilities. There are a few cafes and bars, if you’re peckish before your flight. Darwin International Airport (DRW) is pretty well serviced. Passengers will find ATMs, a selection of restaurants and bars offering food and drink. For your retailing needs, there is a newsagent and a souvenir shop to pick up any trinkets you want to bring to friends and family. If you need to connect to the internet, there is wireless access throughout the airport.

Transport

The taxi rank is just outside the terminal, expect a journey into town to cost between $25-30. If you are travelling in a group, or with your family, it may be cheaper to take the Darwin Airport Shuttle. A group of three of more will be charged $13 per head, whereas a family group (2 adults, 3 children) will be charged $40 one way.

Though this is a domestic flight, you must carry photo identification with you. This can be a social security card, a driver’s license or your passport. Please note: if you are an international traveller flying within Australia, it is recommended that you use your passport as your primary form of identification.

How long should you leave to get to the airport?

As this is a domestic flight departing and arriving in domestic terminals, it is recommended that you check in at least 45-60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Please be aware that if you are travelling in a group, or are going on to a connecting flight, that you arrive 90-120 minutes before departure time.

Weather: Darwin and Townsville have tropical climates, and experience warm, humid weather throughout the year. However, Darwin is the hotter city in general, with highs of 33°C in summer and lows in winter only dipping to around 19°C.
