Perth Airport is really well equipped, and preparing for the fairly long journey to Christchurch, is comfortable and easy in this airport. The first international airport in the country and the second busiest, Christchurch International is a well facilitated airport, and a pleasure to transit through.  Passengers can shop in the duty and tax free store that is in the terminal, grab a refreshment post flight at one of the many dining outlets, or even go to the family entertainment centre. You can access ATMs and a currency exchange service in the terminal too.

Transport

There is a taxi rank just outside the international arrivals hall, and a journey into the centre of town is only 15-20 minutes, and you can expect a fare of between 45-65NZD ($40-60). Shuttle companies also operate out of the airport, but prices vary according to company. There are public buses that operate into Christchurch town (Purple Line and Route 29) for 8NZD ($7) one-way.

If you are planning to hire a car to drive around the country, there are several car hire companies servicing Christchurch airport, and you can find the rental desk in to the arrivals hall.

Yes. This is an international flight, so you are required to carry your passport with you.

How long should you leave to get to the airport?

As this is an international connecting flight, it is recommended that you check in at least 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time for this portion of the flight. Please be aware that if you are travelling in a group, or are going on to a connecting flight, that you arrive 120 minutes before departure time.

Time difference: Christchurch operates under Daylight Savings Time so depending on the time of year, can be 4 or 5 hours ahead of Perth. Please check the latest information before you travel.

Weather: Summers in Christchurch are usually the best time to visit when the weather is warm and dry, between 21-23°C. However, autumn and spring still remain fairly temperate averaging between the mid to late teens. Winter can drop to 11°C, but this is a great time to visit if you are planning to visit the nearby skiing resorts of Queenstown and Wanaka.
