Departing from the Domestic Terminal in Cairns is easy, and stress free. Explore one of the many shops in the terminal, from stationery stores to fashion retail shops. Arriving in: There is only one main terminal that services all flights to ROK.

Rockhampton Airport (ROK) has most of the facilities you would need, despite its size. Passengers will find ATMs, a public phone, a tourist information desk, and free wireless internet throughout the terminal. There is a café that has a selection of food and drinks to choose from if you are in need of refreshments, and there is a Relay store selling books, newspapers, confectionary and gifts should you need them. There is also a handy charge bar where you can recharge your phone or tablets if you battery has died during the flight.  

Transport

Outside the airport terminal you will find the taxi rank. A run into town will cost about $16 and take around 10 minutes. If there are no taxis waiting, there is a free taxi phone just by the taxi rank where you can call a service to you.

There is also Young’s Bus Service (Route 20) that will run you into town for $2-3, though this service doesn’t run frequently. A shuttle service operates to the airport as well, though you must go to their website for a quote on price.

For car hire, you can find the rental desks opposite the baggage claim area in the terminal.  

Do you need a form of identification?

Though this is a domestic flight, you must carry photo identification with you. This can be a social security card, a driver’s license or your passport. Please note: if you are an international traveller flying within Australia, it is recommended that you use your passport as your primary form of identification.

How long should you leave to get to the airport?

As this is a domestic flight departing and arriving in domestic terminals, it is recommended that you check in at least 45-60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Please be aware that if you are travelling in a group, or are going on to a connecting flight, that you arrive 90-120 minutes before departure time.

Weather: Rockhampton is south of Cairns, and as such less tropical in its climate. However, summers are almost as hot, and still fairly wet, with highs in the early 30s. In the winter, spring and autumn seasons you’ll notice that Rockhampton’s temperatures run 2-3°C cooler than in Cairns. March-May and September-November are great seasons to visit this town, with the mercury rising to highs of 25-27°C in these seasons.

Though Rockhampton overall is probably the more expensive city, visitors to this city will be pleased to know that the cost of eating out and going to bars are more or less comparable to Cairns. A three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant in Rockhampton will run patrons around $80.
