You can purchase air tickets from bustling Adelaide to outback Coober Pedy with Regional Express, who operate weekly flights between the two South Australian locations.
Adelaide airport departure information
To get from your home or accommodation to the Adelaide airport, there are a variety of transport options. You can choose to drive yourself (only around ten minutes) and park on site at the airport, or take a taxi for around $15 to $20. Alternatively, you can also hop on one of the city-run Adelaide Metro buses that service the airport. There is a JetExpress double-decker bus option, or a JetBus service that picks up from a wider variety of locations along the way. In addition, there is also a handy Airport City Shuttle bus that runs between the Adelaide city centre and airport.
Make sure you time your departure so that you arrive at Adelaide airport at the very least 30 minutes before your flight so that you can check in (although allowing more like 30-60 minutes before the flight departure time is best, in case of queues or other issues). You should also have your driver’s licence or other form of identification with you.
If you want to while away some time at the airport in Adelaide before your flight leaves, you can eat and drink at one of the 15 or so eateries on site, or do some shopping. The busy airport has a variety of shops to choose from, plus a newsagency and pharmacy, bookstores, and the like. If you require other facilities, you’ll also find ATMs, bathrooms, a Travelex and baggage storage lockers.

Once your Regional Express flight arrives at the small Coober Pedy airport, you can hire a car, or alternatively reserve a seat on a local shuttle bus. At this point in time the town, with a population of just 3,500, does not have a taxi service, so it pays to arrange your transfers in advance, such as when you book accommodation.
Other important information to note
When you’re packing for a trip to Coober Pedy from Adelaide, remember that Coober Pedy is often mild to warm in temperature between April and October, but being in the desert, with a semi-desert climate, the nights can drop down quite substantially. Make sure you have some appropriate weather for cooler nights.
In contrast though, during the warmer months of the year (between November and March) the weather in Coober Pedy can be very hot, with temperatures ranging from 35 to 45 degrees in the shade. There are also occasional dust storms. Make sure that you pack appropriate clothing and accessories that suit the time of year you are visiting this remote town.
Costs of living aren’t too dissimilar between Adelaide and Coober Pedy. Meals from an inexpensive restaurant in Adelaide city cost around $18, while Coober Pedy may be from $15 or so.
