There are other airlines that operate along this route, but they only offer connecting flights, which can take much longer. These are Swiss, Air France and SAS among others.

Both terminals in Dublin Airport offer good facilities, you will have access to ATMs, pharmacies, and phone booths. There is a large retailer in Terminals 1 and 2 called The Loop which sells everything from books, souvenirs, snacks, perfumes, make-up, and travel accessories. For eating and drinking there are licensed bars, and several sit-down restaurants and fast-food chains to while away your waiting time in. There is also an excellent and free WiFi service throughout the airport.

London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

Arriving in: Terminals 2 or 5

Arriving into Heathrow Airport means you will have access to first-rate facilities.  There is a plethora of retailers selling many different kinds of goods, including duty-free. Transiting passengers will also have access to currency exchange services, ATMs, pharmacies, showers and charging stations. You can also easily connect to the WiFi in the airport, which is free, you just have to register your laptop or mobile device.

Transport

The transportation network from Heathrow is really quite excellent. You can access the brilliant London Underground system from stations at Terminals 2 or 5, which connects to the Piccadilly Line that can take you directly into the centre of the city in under an hour. A single fare costs 5.70GBP ($11.50), and they run from about 5:00am-11:30pm.

The fastest way into the city is probably on the Heathrow Express, which takes 15 minutes to get into London Paddington. A single fare costs 22GBP ($45). There’s also the Rail Connect, which runs into London Paddington too and takes around 30-50 minutes, but costs half the price.

There are a variety of buses, from coaches that run into the city centre, to ones that will take you to the overground rail system that runs through the city. All tickets can be purchased at the Heathrow Central Bus Station.

The most expensive way into the city is via taxi, which you can grab directly outside the terminal. The journey will cost around 45-70GBP ($90-140) and taking about an hour. However, you can book private mini-cabs which tend to be cheaper, though you have to organise this in advance.

London Heathrow has a comprehensive service for car rentals. You will find booths for all the major companies represented within LHR, such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Enterprise, National, Hertz, Alamo and Sixt.

Yes. This is an international flight, so you are required to carry your passport with you.

How long should you leave to get to the airport?

As this is an international flight, it is recommended that you check in at least 90-120 minutes before the scheduled departure time for this portion of the flight. Please be aware that if you are travelling in a group, or are going on to a connecting flight, that you must arrive 120 minutes before departure time.

Time difference:  There is no time difference between Dublin and London.

Weather: The weather in London is very similar to that of Dublin. Expect summers (June-August) to average 19-20°C. Spring is a lovely time to visit, though autumn tends to be the warmer of the two shoulder seasons. Winter is cold, sticking to around 4°C.

Though Dublin is pretty expensive, London edges it out price-wise. Though this difference is pretty minimal, expect a meal for two in the city, at a mid-range restaurant to cost about 50GBP ($105).
