How to Check In

British Airways offers its passengers the option to check-in online, via mobile, or at the airport. Online and mobile check-in must be done 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. For passengers who are travelling in a group of more than nine people and for minors travelling alone, you have to check-in at one of the kiosks at the airport.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

British Airways gives a generous free hand baggage allowance to its passengers. Passengers two years old and above are allowed to have one cabin bag and personal bag each. The cabin bag must be within the 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22in x 18in x 10in) total dimension, including handles, pockets, and wheels, while the personal bag must have a total dimension of 45cm x 36cm x 20cm (18in x 14in x 8in), also including handles, pockets, and wheels. The maximum weight allowed per bag is up to 23kg (51lbs) and must be able to fit into the baggage gauge at check in. For checked baggage, the allowed size must be up to 90cm x 75cm x 43cm (35.5in x 29.5in x 16in). Larger items up to 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in) can be carried for an additional over-sized bag, charges may apply. Items bigger than these dimensions must be shipped as cargo. The airline also offers extra baggage services which include up to 10 bags (including your free allowance) per adult or child, except passengers below two years of age. Each extra bag can be up to the same size and weight as a standard checked bag.


Passengers can choose their seats for free once check-in opens, from 24 hours prior to departure. Passengers who prefer to sit together as a group or want extra legroom can reserve their seats in advance. You can reserve them online at the time of booking your flight or afterwards. Executive Club members and their companions can choose any set they want for free.

Booking Fees

You can pay for your booking online using your credit/debit/charge card or with a PayPal account for bookings originating in most countries. There will be a corresponding charge if you use a credit card or PayPal. You can pay with a debit card for no extra charge. If you are travelling from the UK, you can also pay with a Switch/Maestro, Solo, Visa/Delta debit card issued by a UK bank and billed to a UK address. For offline payments, you can pay your ticket over the telephone and at airport ticket desks (booking fees may apply). British Airways do not accept debit cards at airport ticket desks.

Inflight Services

British Airways offers complimentary food and drinks on-board, which are locally sourced from reputable suppliers. However, there are different menus for premium economy, business, and first class passengers. There are also special meals for passengers who are following a specific diet or for those who have food allergies. Passengers are also offered with British Airways’ High Life magazine.
