Cheap flights from Laos

You wouldn’t think landlocked Laos would be the best place to place your travel plans, but luckily with its international airports, you can be flying to an exciting new destination in a matter of hours. Skyscanner will help you zero in on the precise flights that will create those new holiday memories for you, simply pop in where you’d like to go.

There are only a handful of airports operating out of Laos, roughly nine of them. The largest and most important aviation facilities are the Wattay International Airport (VTE) in the Laotian capital of Vientiane, and the Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ) in Luang Prabang.

Roughly 10-20 destinations are available from these hubs, and many of them are on routes run by Lao Airlines, the flag-carrying airline for Laos. Other operators include Lao Skyway, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Hainan Airlines, China Eastern, and Hahn Air Systems.

If you are staying in Vientiane, then you must visit the historic city of Luang Prabang (LBQ). A collection of UNESCO listed villages that make up the old part of town, this is considered a mecca of cultural heritage for the country. You can see the Royal Palace, now a museum, and a number of beautiful temples, and nearby, there are the Pak Ou Caves and the Kuang Si Falls.

With Southeast Asia, and China bordering Laos, you can also make quick trips to fantastic cities with ease. For instance, in an hour and a half you can fly to Phnom Penh (PNH), the capital of Cambodia, and see how this neighbouring country has evolved in contrast. This city has spectacular sites like the Royal Palace, and moving museums like the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, that charts the local experience of the Khmer Rouge.

Only four hours away you can fly to Seoul (ICN), which not only can connect you to destinations all over the world, but is a fantastic city in its own right. Modern, sophisticated and quirky, you can duck into the markets, eat the street food, and see the stunning palaces of Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung.

Where to find cheap flights from Laos

Skyscanner will source the cheapest flights available automatically on your chosen dates, but you can find even cheaper ones by keeping your travel schedule versatile. Our calendar feature presents users with a month’s worth of rates instead of a single date, so you can see for yourself when the cheapest time to fly is.

You’ll find too that mid-week and off-peak seasons are often priced lower, as are routes run by low-cost carriers. Of course, you can travel during peak times and on weekends and still save if you book your trip well in advance. For the best deals on long-haul flights, book roughly seven months ahead of time.

Lastly, make sure you keep your dates flexible, and use our calendar tool, which can sift through rates across a month instead of a specific date, as often mid-week routes can be far cheaper than your original itinerary.
