Flights from Japan

If you’ve seen Japan, you would probably know that the country is at technology’s forefront and responsible for many of the world’s cool inventions. Even its public toilets have integrated sanitary sprays for your bottom! Touristy fun in Japan takes many forms from awe-inspiring scenery to creative delicacies. So before you bid Japan goodbye, remember to have your share of fun at the following attractions:

Hijime, Hyogo

Hyogo’s second largest city is best known for the Himeji Castle, where traditional Japanese architecture meets Mother Nature for picture-perfection. Also, visit the multi-faceted Himeji Central Park, which is an amusement park, safari, swimming pool and skating rink all in one.

Kusatsu, Gunma

Japan is famous for hot springs and one such natural wonder can be found in Kusatsu. The waters of Kusatsu Onsen supposedly give rise to therapeutic benefits, so just lie back with a towel and relax. While in Kusatsu, make sure to bask in the lively atmosphere of the annual Summer Music Festival.

Kyoto

Kyoto is known for beautiful shrines and temples that will captivate your heart, mind and soul. Kiyomizu-dera is a temple that stands tall among the trees on Otowa Mountain and appears in the classic movie Memoirs of Geisha. What’s fascinating is that not a single nail was used in building its main hall and viewing platform. Kinkaku-ji is another temple in Kyoto, whose image is perfectly reflected in the surrounding Mirror Pond. Watch as the temple’s looks change with the relative movement of the sun.

Japan is well connected to the rest of the world as almost every major airline can be found at its airports. The main airports are Tokyo's Narita Airport, followed by Osaka's Kansai Airport, Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Nagoya's Central Japan Airport. Many smaller airports take care of flights to China and Korea. Visit these destinations on leaving Japan:

South Korea

South Korea is Japan’s closest neighbour and many travellers typically visit the two back to back. While the two are only less than a 2 hour’s flight apart and share some cultural building blocks, expect a vastly different travel experience in South Korea. Be sure to hit the slopes at South Korea’s ski resorts in winter, which are mainly located on the outskirts of various cities.

Taiwan

Taiwan is another short haul trip from Japan which takes about 3 hours by air. In its capital Taipei, see the sky high Taipei 101 Tower, go on food marathons at popular night markets and enjoy loads of shopping at Ximending. For water activity lovers, make a trip to Kenting for nice beaches, surfing and banana boating fun.

India

If you’ve had enough of the cold in Japan during winter, head over to India for a warm escape. Flight time averages about 8 hours. In Mumbai, roam the streets while munching on street delights such as Vada Pav, Chicken Tika Rolls and Lassi. For sightseeing and cultural immersion, visit Chand Baori in Rajasthan – a 20 metre deep step well that dates back to the 900s, Baha’i House of Worship in Delhi – a peaceful temple conducive for meditation and the Ganges in Varanasi – a key Indian river where you can take relaxing boat rides and observe life of riverside settlers.
