Flights from Indonesia

Trick question: What’s the time in Indonesia now? Well, the country covers quite a bit of length. Hence it spans 3 time zones. If you’re in the western region, add 7 hours to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), 8 if central, and 9 if in the east. So heads up, especially if you’ve got a flight to catch leaving Indonesia.

In the world’s biggest archipelago (chain of islands), each island is nothing short of beautiful. There are beaches galore, and with a warm tropical climate all year round, it is one of the best relaxation spots one can find. Before you leave Indonesia, make sure you’ve not missed out on these wonderful attractions:

Bali is widely considered the most popular Indonesian tourist destination. Rightly so, if you’ve caught a glimpse of its sparkling beaches, luxurious resorts and refreshing scenery.

North Sumatra

North Sumatra is home to Lake Toba, the iconic volcanic lake of Indonesia. Formed by an immense eruption some 70 thousand years ago, Lake Toba of today is simply gorgeous and a perfect place for honeymoons.

Yogyakarta is steeped in philosophy and craftsmanship. For a time of calm and inner peace, enter Borobudur, a Buddhist temple in Java that took decades to build more than a millennium ago. Indonesia has a multitude of airports to cater to its unique geography. Its main airport is Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport, situated in its capital and roughly an hour’s bus ride from the city. Bali is also a major entry point via its Bali Ngurah Rai (aka Denpasar) International Airport. Island to island, it is advisable to travel by domestic flight if time is tight and tickets tend to be cheaper if purchased in Indonesia. From Indonesia, consider the rest of Asia as potential stops, where flight times average 2 to 4 hours.

Singapore is a small country, but it has lots to offer. Orchard Road is Singapore’s shopping district with rows of shopping malls to quench your thirst for buys. If you’re in the mood for an arts performance, head down to the Esplanade, Singapore’s theatre by the bay, which can be easily recognized by its spiky, metallic exterior. Food is a huge theme in the country as well and Singapore prides itself on many local dishes such as chilli crab, and hawker fare such as char kway teow and chicken rice. Finally, Singapore’s little island of Sentosa is a fun-filled place with beaches, resorts and other exciting activities.

Thailand is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Asia, famous for its shopping in Bangkok and relaxing beaches in Phuket. The country is also well known for elephant tours and traditional Thai food such as Tom Yam Goong and Pad Thai. A good way to experience Thai food is to get on a boat and cruise down one of the floating markets in Bangkok, where you can observe life of the locals while munching on Thai treats.

Here, enjoy the view of scenic landscapes, historical cities, religious monuments and the mystical culture of central Asia. Visit attractions like the Medeo, Almaty Tower and Lake Issyk.
