Iraq is a country in Western Asia that is officially known as the Republic of Iraq. It is a land locked country whose borders are Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest, and Syria to the west. The country is divided into five different regions; Al Jazira, Bhagdad Belts, Iraqi Dessert, Iraqi Kurdistan, and Lower Mesopotamia.

Iraq has a hot and arid climate and rainfall is quite scarce. Its official language is Arabic and its national currency is Dinar.

Basra is a short flight from Baghdad. This city is said to be the proposed location of the Garden of Eden and is part of the historic location of Sumer, the home of Sinbad the Sailor. Jordan is the southwest border of Iraq. This country is only an hour and a half away from Irbil through air travel. It is a country run by a monarch who has both legislative and executive power. Famous tourist locations in this country include the Dana Nature Reserve, the Dead Sea, and Bethany beyond the Jordan, which is believed to be where Jesus Christ was baptised.

Doha is an approximately two-hour flight away from Baghdad. This rapidly developing city is the capital of Qatar. It has a population of more less a million people and serves as the economic centre of its country. Doha also houses the seat of the government of Qatar and is home to the Education City, Qatar’s area devoted to research and education. Tourist attractions in Doha include the Al Kohr Museum, Al Koot Fort, The Pearl Qatar, and many others.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital and the most populated city of Malaysia. It is a nine-hour flight from Baghdad. Its name literally means “muddy river confluence” in Malay and is inhabited by around 6.5 million people. The city is divided to nine different districts with the Golden Triangle as the central business district. Some tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur include the National Museum, the Islamic Art Museum, and the KL Performing Arts Center.

Baghdad International Airport is the central airport of Iraq. It is the home base of Iraq’s national airline, Iraqi Airways. It services both domestic and international flights, but most of them are only to nearby countries. There are no direct flights from Iraq to Australia and vice versa, but connecting flights are available from countries like United Kingdom, which has a direct connection to Iraq.
