Roughly 15 airports handle most of the traffic in and out of Bolivia, though the primary hubs are the Viru Viru International Airport (VVI) situated in Santa Cruz, the largest city in Bolivia, and the El Alto International Airport (LPB) in La Paz. Both of these airports offer several routes around Bolivia, as well as to destinations in North, Central, South America, and Europe.

Popular flights from Bolivia

If you are spending time in Bolivia, you must fly to Uyuni (UYU), and see one of the most arresting natural sights in the world, the Salar de Uyuni, also known as the Salt Flats of Bolivia. This natural wonder is one of the most photographed sites in South America. If you are lucky enough to be there right after it rains, the sky is completely reflected in the flats in a perfect mirror image.

There are also great destinations you can reach on short-haul flights, like out to Buenos Aires (EZE), visit one of the world’s largest opera houses by booking tickets at the Teatro Colon, stroll through the Carolos Thays Botanical Garden, and grab a coffee in Café Tortoni, an artists’ haunt, and a famed café where locals congregate.

If you want to travel to far off places, from Santa Cruz you can fly directly to Madrid (MAD), the incredible capital of Spain. Visit the Plaza Mayor, the Prado Museum, the Fuente de Cibeles, and the opulent Royal Palace. Beyond that, you can spend your days drinking in the sunshine, and the bold red wine.

Where to find cheap flights from Bolivia

The best rates are usually available from major hubs, and in Bolivia’s case, this will be at the Viru Viru International Airport (VVI). However, it’ll be important to consider a few factors to lower your travel expenses.

The first is to consider flying during the low season, as fares naturally drop. They also tend to be lower if you fly between Monday and Thursday, or out of the typical travel times, usually past midnight.

If you do want to fly during peak time, then we suggest booking well in advance. If you are a last minute traveller, you can still find bargains in a pinch if you click on our calendar, which will sift through all the rates available over four weeks, allowing you to pinpoint the cheapest day in the month to travel.
