The Republic of South Sudan is a landlocked north-eastern African country. Once a breakaway region of Sudan, South Sudan became an independent state in July 2011 and is run by the Federal Presidential Democratic Republic. It is bordered by the Republic of the Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic. Much of South Sudan's landscape comprises of tropical rainforest and extensive swamp and grassland regions. South Sudan's capital is the city of Juba, which itself is spread out into three distinct areas: Juba Town, Government ministries, and the Nile camps. The other cities are Aweil, Bentiu, Bor, Malakal, Yei, Rumbek, Torit, and Yambio.

Boma National Park - Situated near the Ethiopian border in eastern South Sudan is 22,800km2 of land designated as the Boma National Park. The park is home to many animals, most notably the white-eared kob antelope, korrigum (also known as tiang or Senegal hartebeest), the Mongalla gazelle, Ruppell's vulture, and the black-chested snake eagle.

Bandingilo National Park - This national park of South Sudan can be found in the Equatorial region, in the wooded area near the White Nile River. The park covers an area of over 10,000km2, and is the site where the second-largest annual animal migration occurs. The migration involves several species of antelope such as the reedbuck, tiang, and white-eared kob. Bandingilo National Park is also home to other iconic African megafauna.

Nimule National Park - The Nimule National Park covers over 410km2 of mostly savannah woodland in the extreme south of South Sudan, by the Uganda border. The Kayu river from the Uganda border flows through the park to the White Nile. Additionally, the park is also contiguous with Uganda's Mount Kei Forest Reserve and Mount Otzi Forest Reserve. Visitors can get a permit to enter the park from Juba or at the headquarters in the park itself. A food establishment called the Smart Pub and the Horizon Guest House in Nimule Town is accessible for the park's visitors.
