Cheap flights from Seychelles

Seychelles, officially the Republic of Seychelles, is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean consisting of more than 115 islands. It is located about 1,500 kilometres or 932 miles east of mainland Southeast Africa, and is also near Zanzibar, Comoros, Mayotte, Madagascar, Reunion, and Mauritius. Seychelles has the smallest population among the African states, at around 90,024. Its capital and largest city is Victoria on the island of Mahe. The 45 granitic islands of the country are known as the oldest and hardest granite in the world. Seychelles is also known to be a world leader in sustainable tourism, with every tourism project here required to undergo an environmental review.

Where to go

From Seychelles’ primary airport on the island of Mahe, local flights go between Victoria, Praslin Island, Alphonse Island, Bird Island, D’Arros Island, Denis Island, Desroches Island, and Fregate Island. The capital city Victoria is located on the north-eastern part of Mahe Island. The city is sometimes called Port Victoria as it has an inner harbour on the east, where tuna fishing and canning is a major local industry. When exploring the capital, tourists can see attractions here such as a clocktower modelled after Vauxhall Clock Tower in London, the Courthouse, the Victoria Botanical Gardens, the Victoria National Museum of History, the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke market, the gallery of the renowned local artist Georges Camille, and the national stadium. Also in Mahe, outside of Victoria, many other wonders can be visited, including the Morne Seychellois National Park, Baie Ternay Marine National Park, Port Launay Marine National Park, and the Sainte Anne Marine National Park.

From Mahe, experience more of Seychelles by getting into the country’s second largest island, Praslin. The island is a popular tourist destination, being home to many hotels and resorts. It also has beautiful beaches, including Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette. Within its tropical forests, there are the endemic species Seychelles Bulbul and Seychelles Black Parrot. Take a hike in Valle de Mai Nature Preserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see the unique coco de mer and vanilla orchids. South of the island is designated as Praslin National Parkm and the surrounding areas are designated as Important Bird Area.

Seychelles International Airport also operates short-haul international flights to Saint-Denis de la Reunion, Abu Dhabi, Antananarivo, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Mauritius, Mumbai, Dubai, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Colombo. Get a feel of France in the Indian Ocean by visiting Saint-Denis in the northernmost point of the island of Reunion, a French overseas region and department. Tourists staying here can get accommodations in hotels such as Mercure Creolia Hotel, Austral Hotel, and Best Western. Popular attractions within Saint-Denis include Leon Dierx Museum, an art gallery and museum; Hardin de l’Etat, which is home to a natural history museum; the Le Barachois seafront park; Brasseries de Bourbon; and the Noor-e-Island mosque, the biggest mosque in Reunion and the oldest existing on French soil. About 15 kilometres or nine miles south of the city is Le Roche Ecrite, a summit that overlooks Saint-Denis, offering spectacular views.

Seychelles International Airport also handles some long-haul international flights to as far as Hong Kong, Paris, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv, and Moscow. Hong Kong, a city state of the People’s Republic of China, is very well known for its sprawling skyline and deep natural harbour. Commonly referred to as a place where “East meets West,” Hong Kong has an interesting culture, which is a mix of its Chinese roots and influences from its time as a British colony. One of the most iconic landmarks of Hong Kong is Victoria Peak, where one can see a stunning view of Hong Kong on the top of the giant, wok-shaped Peak Tower. The tower has an observation platform and a shopping mall, fine dining restaurants, and museums.

How to get out

The airport is served by the airlines Air Austral, Air Seychelles, Condor, El Al, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Kenya Airways, SriLankan Airlines, and Transaero Airlines.
