Cheap flights from Malawi

Malawi, among the smallest countries in Africa, is not without its own attractions. It may not have the breadth and range of safari destinations as other countries in the region, but its landscapes and wildlife parks feature charming features. Tourists will see breathtaking spots here such as Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa, and the dramatic peaks of Mt Mulanje and the mysterious Zomba Plateau.

Where to go

Nature spots in Malawi can be fascinating to behold, but some are more mindful than others in their environmental responsibility. One will see this in the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, where orphaned, rescued, and injured wild animals are kept in its active role in conservation. Those interested to learn more about the centre and visit here can book a guided tour here and find out more about animal rehabilitation in the country. From here, tourists can move on to see the wilder side in the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve. The main camp is located in a safe distance away from Lake Kazuni which lures hippopotamuses, impalas, and other creatures such as the particularly fierce buffaloes. The main attraction here is the herd of elephants within the mark. Birdwatching is also excellent, making a trip here a well-rounded one for those who love both land animals and avian creatures.

The Liwonde National Park is also a marvellous place to be for those who want to explore more of the countryside. The Shire River dominates the western part of the reserve, with hippos, crocodiles, and more elephants. After spending a great deal of time outdoors, tourists can venture to the Culture and Museum Centre Karonga. Numerous fossil discoveries can be found here, as well as the skeleton of the Malawisaurus.

Flying between Lilongwe and Maputo takes about two hours. Those going to Maputo in Mozambique will find various attractions, such as the Natural History Museum. It is worth stopping here due to the statuesque Manueline architecture and a garden with a mural by Malangatana. There are also taxidermy specimens available here, which are accompanied by other displays such as the fascinating yet slightly morbid exhibit of elephant foetuses. The House and Studio of Malangatana can also be found here, which shows off the works of Mozambique's famous painter. The place contains dozens of his paintings, as well as sculptures by Alberto Chissano.

Other sights to behold here include the displays in the National Art Museum, located half a block west of Avenida Karl Marx. An excellent collection of works from the country's most talented contemporary artists can be seen here, making it a possible addition to the list, for art lovers. Those near the airport, however, can check out the Praca dos Herois Mocambicanos where one can examine a 95-metre mural commemorating the revolution.

Unfortunately, the international airports in Malawi (Blantyre and Lilongwe) currently do not handle long haul international flights.
