Emerald Airport (EMD) is a small regional air facility that services the historical and rural town of Emerald. Set in the highlands of Queensland state, this charming town draws visitors of all kinds, especially keen fishermen and women who want to throw their line into the azure waters of Lake Maraboon. The airport itself is made up of one main terminal that has undergone an extension project that was completed just recently, in 2014. However, the amenities remain fairly threadbare, with just a kiosk offering refreshments, and short and long-term parking lots. However, you will find that there are six reliable car rental agencies operating out of and around the Emerald Airport, and these are Europcar, Thrifty, Avis, OAQ, Budget and Hertz. If you are visiting Emerald it is recommended that you hire a car, as there isn’t a great deal of public transport in the area, and having a vehicle will allow you to better explore the town’s surrounding hinterlands. Renting a car can be done at the agencies when you land or in advance with Skyscanner’s search tool.
