Philippine Airlines is the main flag carrier of the Philippines which was first founded in year 1941. The airline provides services in 31 destinations locally and 36 overseas. Its hubs include the Ninoy Aquino International Airport of Manila and Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Cebu city. Most recently, on April 2012, San Miguel Corporation bought 49% stake in Philippine Airlines valued at $500 million. San Miguel made the strategic act with an objective of modernising and strengthening the Philippine Airlines through the renewal of its fleet as well as restoring its prominence in the Asian aviation industry.

How to Check In

Passengers have the option to check-in at Philippine Airline's airport's check-in counters as well as checking in online. However, there are exceptions in the web check-in. Passenger may not be eligible to check-in online if they fall under these categories: passengers who need medical assistance, unaccompanied minor, and a group of 16 or more passengers under one booking. The web check-in is available for both domestic and international flights except flights from Xiamen, China, and to/from Dubai, UAE. Passengers are advised to check in at least two hours before their flight for domestic flights and at least three hours before their departure time for international flight.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

The baggage allowance depends on the passenger’s destination as well as the class the passenger travels in. Both adults and children are entitled to the same baggage allowance. In domestic flights, you are allowed 10kg when you fly regular economy and 20kg on premium economy. Same in Southeast Asia except for the Business class which allows up to 30kg. If your baggage exceeds the allowance, you have to pay the corresponding rate which also varies according to your destination. Excess baggage is charged at the applicable local rates. Passengers are also allowed to carry one piece of hand-carry luggage but it should not exceed 45 inches or 115cm, or weigh more than 7kg or 15lbs.


Philippine Airlines provides different seats in their flights from economy to business class seats. You can pre-reserve seats during online ticket purchases or by requesting Advance Seat Reservation when you directly contact or call PAL Call Centre or any PAL ticket offices. Advance seat reservations enable passengers to choose where to sit according to their special preferences, including window or aisle seats.

Inflight Services

Philippine Airlines now features a new inflight entertainment service in its entire cabin of the new B777-300ERs. It is equipped with Panasonic eX2 Inflight Entertainment System. The B747 aircraft is equipped with Thales’ i5000 IFE System. It allows Mabuhay and Fiesta class passengers to access a catalogue of video and audio content including movies, TV programs, radio, and newspapers and magazines. Passengers also have the ability to create their own music playlists from the airline's collection of CD albums.
