Why visit Coffs Harbour?

Coffs Harbour is often cited as one of Australia’s favoured coastal destinations, and despite the fact that the main part of town is set a little inland, any traveller staying here will have access to some of New South Wales’ most lovely stretches of sand. You can have fun in the town’s many restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, or simply enjoy the incredible beaches that populate the area.

Things to do in Coffs Harbour

In Coffs Harbour itself, one of the main attractions is the Harbour Marina and Jetty, where much of the town’s restaurants and cafes cluster. This is a great way to spend an afternoon, as you can watch the boats come in and out, enjoy the sunset, and top off the day with a fish and chips meal, or an ice cream. If you can, visit on Sundays, as this is when the markets populate the jetty.

Next on the sightseeing list is Muttonbird Island, a rugged outcrop that offers some stunning views of the landscape and an opportunity to see the nesting sites of the local Mutton Birds. The walk is a leisurely one kilometre, so it is suitable for all ages. Indeed, if you are travelling with the family, you have to make time for the Big Banana, a theme park filled with great attractions, rides, and courses, and a big local favourite.

Then, if you don’t mind a drive, then go to Bellingen, which has the biggest regional markets in Australia, and takes place every third Sunday.

However, it is the beaches that take the cake in Coffs Harbour, and you can find ones of all kinds, from secluded shell coves like Charlesworth Bay, to the family-friendly Diggers Beach, or the lovely Sawtell Beach attached to the equally quaint town of the same name.
