Situated in the southwest Pacific Ocean, 1,210 kilometres east of Australia and 16,136 kilometres east of Metropolitan France, New Caledonia is a special collectivity of France. New Caledonia is part of the Melanesia subregion and consists of Grande Terre (the main island), the Loyalty Islands, the Chesterfield Islands, the Belep archipelago, the Isle of Pines, and some remote islets. Auckland in New Zealand ranked third in the world in the 2014 Mercer Quality of Living Survey. Auckland is also designated as a Beta World City in the World Cities Study Group’s inventory by Loughborough

University, and also ranked ninth in the Economist’s World’s most liveable cities index in 2011. With its nickname “City of Sails,” one of the most enjoyed activities in Auckland is sailing.

 

The only long-haul flights available from La Tontouta International Airport in New Caledonia are flights to Japan, specifically to Osaka-Kansai and Tokyo-Narita. The most populous metropolitan area in the world is Tokyo, which has the world’s largest city economy, and is one of the three major global centres of trade and commerce, with the other two being New York City and London. This capital city of Japan is favoured by many tourists for several categories, even ranking first in “Best Overall Experience” in TripAdvisor’s 2014 World City Survey, where the city also ranked first in “Helpfulness of Locals”, “Nightlife”, “Shopping”, “Local Public Transportation”, and “Cleanliness of Street”. Other than being a modern city, 36% of the total land area of Tokyo was designated as Natural Parks, which includes the UNESCO World Heritage-Listed Ogasawara National Park.
