The Moranbah Airport (MOV) serves the small mining town of Moranbah in central Queensland. This important facility is the key regional hub for the area, and the town’s residents, and recently saw a $47 million upgrade in 2010.
If you are planning to travel to Moranbah, flying to this airport is the fastest and most convenient way to explore this Outback town.
Both Qantas and Virgin Australia – Australia’s most extensive national airline carriers – operate out of Moranbah, offering flights to Townsville and Brisbane. Passengers looking to fly outside of Australia will find a plethora of options from Brisbane Airport (BNE), one of the nation’s busiest and most comprehensive hubs.
Within Moranbah’s terminal building, there are very few amenities, so if you need to access WiFi, ATMs, showers, information desks, dining and shopping options, you will need to do so either in Moranbah town itself, or at your destination airport when you arrive.
The amenities that are available in the airport are bathroom facilities, and car hire desks. The rental agencies available include world-trusted brands, such as Budget, Avis, and Hertz. However, if you are concerned about availability, it may be advisable to organise your car rental ahead of time with Skyscanner’s search tool. This is also a handy feature if you would like to compare and contrast rates offered by different companies.
· The airport is only a ten-minute drive to get to the city centre, with only a 10km distance separating the two. The best way into town it to head northwest on the Moranbah Access Road towards the Long Pocket Road, from there, you must turn right onto Mills Avenue, which will take you right into the centre of Moranbah town.
· Taxis do service the airport if you don’t have transport of your own, and they are not terribly expensive. Expect the journey to cost about $25, and it is usually advised that you call ahead so that you do not have to wait for a pick up once you disembark. Of course, if you’d prefer to arrange your pick up in advance, and you’d like to save a little money, the easiest way to do that is to use our search engine to organise an airport transfer to meet you when you land.
