Flying With Korean Air

As the largest operating airline within Korea, and functioning as a full service carrier for over 40 years, Korean Air has established itself as one of the premier airlines in Northeast Asia. Currently the sponsor of the 2018 Winter Olympics that are being held in South Korea, this Seoul-based airline promises to deliver to the hundreds of thousands of passengers that will be using its growing fleet. Korean Air has partnered with the Skyteam Alliance to offer even more destinations to its loyal customers, and lure new passengers to its service.

Why Fly With Korean Air?

Ways To Check-In

Eliminate waiting in long check in queues by checking in online, and printing your boarding pass at home up to 48 hours before you fly with Korean Air. If you do not have a printer, but have purchased an e-ticket then you can use the kiosk express check in, which will remain open until 60 minutes before your scheduled departure. If you are part of a large group, need special assistance, or are flying out of an airport that does not facilitate the above options, you can find Korean Air counters and check in for your flight in person. Recommended check in times tend to be between 2 and 3 hours for international flights, and 60 minutes for domestic ones.

Baggage Allowances & Fees

Your free baggage allowance will depend on your ticket class, but in general all bags must come to linear dimensions of 158cm. For weight restrictions, Economy passengers are allowed to check one bag at 23kg, Prestige fare holders may bring two pieces of 32kg each, and First class travellers may carry three pieces at 32kg. Excess bags will be charged at a fairly hefty rate, and any bag that exceeds the 32kg limit may be rejected for travel.

The carry on allowances are generous on Korean Air, with Economy travellers allowed one cabin bag of up to 12kg, and First and Prestige passengers able to bring two bags that cumulatively come to a weight of 18kg. Required cabin dimensions are 55cm x 20cm x 40cm. You may also bring one personal item, such as a handbag or briefcase.

You can select your seat in advance of your flight through the Korean Air service centres, or ticket offices. However, bulkhead and exit row seating is only assigned at the airport.

Payment Methods

A credit card or check card is required for ticket purchase on Korean Air’s website. You may transact with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, or Discover. However if you are purchasing a domestic flight from the English site of the Korean region, card transactions are limited to Visa and Master cards. Present your credit card at the check-in counter on the day of departure or do advanced credit card verification if the cardholder is not part of the traveling party. Changes to your flight itinerary can be made depending on the fare basis of your ticket. If your ticket allows flight modifications, you may check with your local Korean Air office or travel agency for the administrative fee and additional fare.

In-Flight Service

No matter which cabin class you book into, you will be treated with full service for the duration of your flight. This starts with the excellent, and award winning on board menu, offering passengers Western, Japanese, Chinese and Korean cuisine, as well as a complimentary drinks service. For those that have specific dietary requirements, you can pre-order a variety of specially prepared meals in advance of your trip.

As for entertainment, you will be treated to your own personal viewing screen to watch the latest blockbusters, catch up on your favourite TV shows, hear popular and current music albums, or listen to a variety of excellent radio programming—all at the touch of a button. You will also be given a small amenity kit, which will have a toothbrush, toothpaste, eye mask and socks to ensure your comfort whilst flying.

Korean Air offers an Unaccompanied Minor service for children between the ages of 5 and 16. On domestic flights, this is a complimentary service, but on international flights you will be charged a service fee, and may have to purchase an adult fare for your child. To take advantage of the UM service, you must book ahead at least 24 hours before your child’s flight.
