Where to hire a car at Hyderabad Airport

Petrol Stations near Hyderabad Airport
Depending on the fuel policy of your car hire agreement you may be required to refuel your car prior to dropping it off at the airport. The closest petrol station to Hyderabad Airport is just 10 minutes’ drive away. It’s a Bharat Petroleum garage located on Airport Approach Road and can be reached by turning right out of the airport.
Driving around Hyderabad Airport
Airport Approach Road runs east and west away from the airport. Eastbound it joins route 765 which goes north to Hyderabad centre and south towards Kalwakurthy. Westbound it joins route 7 which also goes north towards Hyderabad city and south west towards Shadnagar. Both of these roads have connections to Jawaharlal Nehru Outer Ring Road which runs around Hyderabad and has a number of toll booths.
Drivers need an International Driving Permit to drive in India. This is different to your standard driving license and you’ll to need to apply for the permit before you travel at The Post Office or with The AA. The permit is then valid for twelve months from the date of issue.
Driving in India is a bit of an adventure. Roads aren’t always well-maintained or signposted, traffic is chaotic and few drivers seem to obey the rules. One of the few familiar aspects of driving in India is that, as a former British colony, they drive on the left hand side of the road, as we do in the UK.

Hyderabad is located on the banks of the Musi River. Its old town is a bustling, vibrant place of narrow lanes, markets, rickshaws and beautiful old architecture. There are a number of routes travelling from Hyderabad Airport to Hyderabad city. The most direct takes around 50 minutes and follows route 765 north before picking up the city’s inner ring road. The city’s roads tend to become very congested during rush hours and, as with the majority of Indian cities, driving is a chaotic affair. However, there are lots of authorised parking zones around the city.
Nalgonda is famous for its ancient ruins. Visitors can see the remains of a Buddhist monastery and a number of impressive temples. It’s a quiet little town with some great fish restaurants and there’s also a popular mythological museum close by.
Nalgonda is an hour and 50 minutes from Hyderabad Airport. The route, taking the outer ring road and then route 9 east, has a toll booth along the way.
Shamirpet Lake is an artificial lake, home to a great variety of birdlife and popular as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Hyderabad city. Visitors can go boating, visit the Jawahar Deer Park close by, or just enjoy a relaxing picnic along the lakeside. There are a number of resorts and eateries located around the lake.
Shamirpet Lake is located north of Hyderabad city. It takes around 80 minutes to get there by car from Hyderabad Airport. Drivers should take the outer ring road which is tolled.
