Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport

Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) is perhaps the most important airport in Australia, and offers the largest range of destinations for travellers looking to fly in or out of this hub. Sydney’s Airport is also one of the country’s oldest, having seen gravel runways as far back as the 1930s.

Booking a flight to Sydney will allow you to explore this gorgeous capital, and its iconic attractions, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, as well as the nearby Blue Mountains National Park, and the stunning beaches of New South Wales.

Sydney Kingsford Smith handles millions of passengers each year, and this airport is well-equipped to deal with all your transiting needs. There are tons of restaurants you can dine in, bars you can relax in, or cafes you can grab a quick snack in. If you need to kill some time you’ll find that there are 150 shops within the terminal buildings, with lots of souvenir shops, high-street retailers and designer stores you can have a nosey around in. For banking, there are ATMs, foreign exchange booths, and a full-service bank in Terminal 1. Communicating with your loved ones shouldn’t be a problem either, as you can hire a mobile phone, or connect to the free WiFi. Other amenities include showers, play rooms, and a medical centre.

If you are flying internationally, there are lots of airlines that will fly to Sydney, including Qantas, Air China, Regional Express, Jetstar, Emirates, Virgin Australia, Thai Airways, Etihad Airways, American Airlines, Delta, Fiji Airways, Air New Zealand, China Eastern Aircalin, Tigerair, Korean Air, Asiana, JAL and Air Canada. However, for domestic routes to Sydney, you should look to book with Qantas, Virgin Australia, Regional Express or Jetstar, who usually handle most of the national air traffic in the country.

Travel Information

· Hop on the M1 and stay on this road until you see the exit for the city going north, you’ll leave the motorway, take a left on Macquarie Street and that will bring you directly into the centre of town. If you’re thinking of hiring a car, you can have everything organised in advance if you book online before you leave, otherwise there are several reliable rental agencies in both terminals, such as Europcar, Budget and Hertz.

· Trains are an efficient and cost-effective way to get into the city, as the Airport Link only takes half an hour and costs $17.50 for an adult.

· Buses are a little bit cheaper and take a little bit longer. Hop on the 400 for a fare of $4-5, which can take you to Bondi Junction, but you will have to take a train (a further $3-4) to get into the CBD. If you’d rather organise a private transfer, you can do this in a jiff online with our search tool.

· Taxis service the airport around the clock, but this is the most expensive way to travel. Expect a fare of about $45-55 to central, and $55-65 for North Sydney.
