One of the world’s largest airlines, United Airlines is an American carrier headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Operating a fleet of close to 700 aircrafts, United Airlines has an extensive flight network and it is one of the few airlines in the world to fly to all six inhabited continents.

Together with its codeshare partners, United Airlines serves several destinations in Australia. Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth flights purchased under United Airlines will be operated by Air New Zealand. For flights to Cairns, Sydney and Melbourne, they will be served by either United Airlines or Air New Zealand.

United Airlines has an extensive flight network that connects over 70 domestic destinations within the United States and more than 100 international destinations across Asia, the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and Africa. Why fly with United Airlines


Breeze through the airport and into your seat when you check-in online using your personal computers or smartphones – simply key in your confirmation, e-ticket or MileagePlus® number and your last name to receive your electronic boarding pass. Print your boarding passes from home or request for a boarding pass barcode to be sent to your mobiles. Web and mobile check-in is available 24 hours before and closes 45 minutes prior to take-off. Kindly note that passengers traveling in a party of more than nine, passengers who require special assistance and passengers with paper-ticketed reservations are not eligible for web or mobile check-in. If you want greater convenience opt for the Auto Check-in option. When your departure is within the 24-hour window, the Auto Check-in function will move to check you in for the flight and request for your boarding pass be ready for printing at an airport kiosk. If you prefer the traditional check-in method, you can always head to the check-in counters or self-serve check-in kiosks at the airport. Complete your check-in at least 45 minutes before departure for domestic routes and 60 minutes before departure for international routes. Do note that check-in time requirements may vary at different airports.

Baggage Allowances

United Airlines charges a service fee on all passengers for their first two pieces of check-in luggage no matter their cabin class. This is a separate fee that is charged regardless of their baggage allowance. Economy class passengers are allowed two pieces of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg and maximum exterior linear dimension of 158 cm (height+length+width) per bag. Passengers traveling on Business or Premier cabin classes can have two pieces of checked baggage, with a maximum weight of 32 kg per bag. Baggage exceeding the size or weight limitations will be subjected to additional charges and only checked-in based on the availability of space in the aircraft. Every passenger can bring on board one carry-on bag plus one personal item. The size of your carry-on bag should be within the dimensions of 22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm while the size of your personal item should be within the dimensions of 22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm.


United Airlines operates four cabin classes – United Global First, United Business First, United Economy Plus, United Economy. United Economy and United Economy Plus seats have an average width of 45 cm and are arranged approximately 78 cm to 86 cm apart. Each seat comes with either an overhead screen or a seat-back monitor. Power outlets and USB ports are also mounted into the seats, in addition to the standard features such as a bi-fold tray table, cup holder and coat hook. If you want to secure seats with your travel party, reserve them when checking in online or make a request to the sales representatives over the check-in counters. United Business First class and United Global First class feature recliner seats that can extend into fully flat beds with close to two meters of sleeping space. Every seat also comes with a seat-back television screen and power outlets.

Booking Fees/Payment Methods

United Airline charges 53 AUD for issuance of paper tickets. Service charges also apply when you make reservations through a United representative. The service fees are approximately 26 AUD if you make your booking over the phone, 32 AUD for bookings at a City Ticket Office and 37 AUD if the booking is made in person at the airport. Do note that the above figures are accurate as of 2014. United Airlines welcomes payment in the form of cash, credit card, Carte Blanche (Blank cheque), UATP (Universal Air Travel Plan) and PayPal. The accepted credit cards are MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and Diners Club International.

In-flight Services

United Airlines serves complimentary meals on all its international long-haul flights. For flights with no complimentary refreshments or meals provided, United’s Choice Menu Snack Shop and Bistro on Board offerings will be available for purchase. If you have certain dietary restrictions, do request for a special meal online or via the ticket reservation hotline at least a day before your flight. When you’re on board United Airlines, do try their complimentary Hawaiian Kona Blend coffee. Keep yourself entertained in the air with United’s Seatback on-demand entertainment system, which features up to 150 movies, 185 television shows, thousands of songs, 20 interactive video games, and a range of language learning programmes.
