Discover Hamilton Island
Hamilton Island Airport (HTI) is the primary hub both for Hamilton Island and the Whitsunday Islands in general. This is a compact airport, and so facilities are a bit thin on the ground. You’ll find restrooms, a VIP lounge and an airport bar, where you can pick up snacks and reading materials.
Hamilton Island is car free, and all the hotels offer complimentary pick-ups. Otherwise there is a free shuttle bus that travels all around the island.
Find you way to this beautiful part of Australia by flying with Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantas who all operate routes to Hamilton Island Airport.
Why visit Hamilton Island?
Within the rainbow coral waters of the Great Barrier Reef, on Queensland’s sugar sand coast, lay the Whitsunday Islands. These gorgeous and protected islands each have their own appeal, but it is Hamilton Island that takes the glitzy crown. With a whole host of leisure activities, from golf to watersports, an excellent dining scene, a range of hotel options, and of course, long sandy stretches of beach lapped by crystalline shores.
Things to do in Hamilton Island
Hamilton Island is all about making the most of your spectacular location, and out of all the islands, this one probably offers the most in terms of outdoor pursuits. For water babies, there are plenty of things on offer here, from snorkelling, to paddle boarding, jet skiing to wind surfing, you will find a water sport to suit your adventurous tastes. If you’d rather stay on terra firma, there are great walking paths, and picnic spots to be found on Hamilton.
If you’re hoping for a more leisurely pace, then tee-off on the island’s 18 hole championship course, sunbathe on the famous Catseye Beach, or hop on a boat for a ride out to sea. You can also wander the quaint boutiques and chic retail shops on the island, or spend some time enjoying the freshly caught seafood that many of the islands’ restaurants are vaunted for offering.
Outside of Hamilton Island, you’d do yourself a disservice for not island hopping a bit, as Hamilton Island is only one of 74 other islands that make up the Whitsundays. See the powder-white sands of Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island, hike the trails on South Molle Island, or snorkel around the Pinnacles on Hook Island.
