Cologne Airport

Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN)

The city of Cologne is one of Germany’s largest, so it stands to reason that the Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) that serves this city is also one of the nation’s most comprehensive ports. Operating since the turn of the 20th century, this airport has seen many renovations, including ones that have been implemented almost one hundred years later. This airport offers over 70 direct destinations to the 10 million passengers that travel through its terminals each year, and you’ll find if you transit through this hub, you won’t be disappointed.

Thereis a good range of shops here, from large duty-free sections, to fashion stores, travel accessories, electronics, and gourmet food goods shops. The dining options here are even better, with bakeries, restaurants, bars, and fast food joint you can take advantage of.

Then there are the standard amenities, such as a full service bank, cash machines, foreign exchange services, free WiFi throughout the terminals, and payphones. There are also handy extras, like a travel centre to help you create a holiday itinerary, as well as a hairdressing salon, and medical services.

There are many airlines that will offer routes between Australia and Cologne, and some of these are Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, Emirates, airberlin, Thai Airways, British Airways, Eurowings, Turkish Airlines, and many more.

Travel Information

·         Typically, driving in Germany is a dream, as the infrastructure in this country is excellent. To get into the city centre, you only need hop on the A59, and then take Östliche Zubringerstraße/L124 to Opladener Street. Cross the bridge over the Rhine, and you’ll be in the centre of town. As for renting a vehicle, there are many big car hire brands represented at the airport, and you can book with them when you arrive, or online and in advance.

·         The celebrated S-Bahn trains will take you from the airport into town in 15 minutes. There is an Airport Express bus that takes twice the amount of time, but a one-way ticket costs less than 8EUR ($11). However, if you are not travelling solo, paying for individual fares may be much more expensive than just booking airport transfers before you fly.

·         A taxi into town is the most expensive method of travel, but is swift. Expect to pay around 30EUR ($42) for the 15 minute journey.
