Well preserved medieval town with extensive fortifications. Not to be missed
Spent a week in Rhodes Town in September 2012 and loved it. The town features a few beautiful beaches, a medieval walled city with ancient ruins, and a few good streets of bars with a bit of night life. And stray cats and dogs aplenty! Go to Mandraki Harbour and book a day-cruise to Lindos, which is well worth the 2.5hr boat ride. The bay is sheltered, so that means the its clear blue water is still and perfect for swimming. Walk up the acropolis for beautiful views of St Paul's Bay. The only downside to the whole stay was the wind, it was relentless. And we didn't find any nice wine, although there were plenty of other drinks to choose from. Rhodes Town is a gem!
This incredible place has to be on everybody's list. Not only cat lovers. Spend an evening here, lose yourself in the narrow streets, discover a hidden oasis, wine and dine, relax; you may never want to leave. September is best.
Rhodes was my favorite stop when I went to Greece last year. The town is beautiful, there are great beaches, nice shopping, and lots of historical sites to visit.
