Popular destinations from Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport

Why not explore your own backyard by flying to Lisbon (LIS), and touring the capital’s castle, the incredible Jeronimos monastery, and the many museums and galleries that chart the history of Portugal, and its role in the world. Then throw your cares away and fly out to Funchal (FNC) in Madeira, the largest city on an archipelago of islands just off the coast of North Africa, and boasting a dramatic landscape of rising peaks, rocky coastline, and hidden, perfect beaches.

A couple of hours more on a plane, and you can depart the shores of Portugal for the impressive and pretty streets of Germany’s historic Hamburg (HAM), the charming wee city of Dublin (DUB) in Ireland, or the ski fields of Chamonix just outside of Geneva (GVA).

However, beyond Europe you can find other treasures; fly to Rio de Janeiro (GIG) a city that is visually spectacular. Here you can climb to Christ the Redeemer—the city’s most famous monument—and be rewarded with a view of Sugarloaf Mountain, the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, and the vast waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In contrast, you can also fly to New York (JFK, EWR) in the northern hemisphere. Arguably the most famous city in the States, this metropolis is filled to the brim with museums, galleries, shopping avenues, restaurant districts, and big attractions like the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building. Biting off a piece of the Big Apple is something you won’t regret.
