Driving around Florianopolis Airport
The roads around the airport are single-carriageways. Remember that traffic in Brazil drives on the right-hand side of the road. Locals have a reputation for driving quite aggressively, so stay alert and drive defensively. If you're planning on doing a lot of exploring, or don't know the area very well, it's a good idea to choose a car hire package that includes a sat-nav system.
Getting to your destination
The capital of Santa Catarina sprawls between the mainland and the beautiful Ilha de Santa Catarina. The island's stunning beaches are within an hour's driving distance. There are 42 to find, so it's a good job you're planning to hire a car.
It takes about 20 minutes to drive into downtown Florianopolis from the airport. On-street parking is widely available in the city but it's better to leave your car in a paid car park. Prices are displayed at the entrances. Some hotels on the outskirts of the city have their own car parks. Most will charge a fee to use them but this does offer peace of mind and removes the stress of finding somewhere to park every day.

Driving from Florianopolis Airport is a good alternative if you can't find cheap flights to Navegantes. It takes about an hour and ten minutes to drive to Balneário Camboriú from Florianopolis Airport. Car parking in the city is the same as in Florianopolis. Paid parking lots are ubiquitous, and parking on street is free but not to be recommended. Again, most hotels have car parks for guests. When you search for hotels it's a good idea to use the filters so that you only see hotels that offer parking.
Beautiful beaches and excellent watersports draw visitors to Porto Belo. The town is still pretty quaint, and hasn't been destroyed by mass tourism, but it's a popular destination for those in the know.
It takes just over an hour to drive to Porto Belo from Florianopolis Airport. Parking is widely available, and is offered by most of the beach front hotels.
