Why Fly With KLM?

Ways To Check-In

Check in for your KLM flight online, through your mobile or in person. Remote check in opens 30 hours ahead of your departure unless you are travelling to the United States in which case it opens 24 hours ahead of take off. At the airport, you can use the self-service kiosks or the check-in desks. Should you be a member of a lounge, you may be able to check in there also. Please be aware though, that if you choose to check in at the airport you should arrive earlier at the airport to take into account any queues at the check in counters. Rule of thumb for arrival times generally are to allow an hour for domestic flights, and two to three for international ones.

Baggage Allowances & Fees

Every flyer on KLM is permitted to carry aboard one piece of hand luggage, though this cannot exceed 55cm x 25xm x 35xm in dimensions, and should weigh no more than 12kg. If you are a Business class passenger, then you may bring two pieces, though the second bag must meet measurements of 45cm x 20cm x 35cm, and both must come to a cumulative weight of under 18kg.

Checked baggage for Economy travellers may weigh up to 23kg, with Business restrictions allowing up to 32kg. Linear dimensions should not exceed 158cm; should your bag be overweight or oversized, it may be rejected or subject to excess fees.

You are able to choose your seat when booking online, or when you check in. The airline does its best to accommodate passenger’s preferences, but they cannot promise you will get your top-choice selection.

In-Flight Service

You don’t have to worry about going hungry with KLM, as all flights on this carrier will offer complimentary beverages and food. If your flight is short and sweet, you can expect a snack with a soft drink, or coffee and tea. For longer haul flights, a full meal service will be available to you. Special meals that cater to any dietary concerns can be ordered too, just don’t forget to organise this well in advance of your flight date.

Entertainment is taken care of with in-seat screens displaying all the latest options in TV shows, films, music and audio programming. You may also bring your own electronic devices (as long as they can be set to flight mode), such as your tablet, smart phone, e-reader or laptop if you’d prefer to use a personal device in flight.

Young travellers, ages 5 through to 14 may travel with KLM, but you must book an Unaccompanied Minor service. This has to be reserved well in advance of your child’s flight, at least 24 hours ahead, and you must accompany your child during check in, between 90-150 minutes before take off. This is a charged service, where you can expect to pay between 50-100EUR depending on whether the flight is intercontinental or involves a transfer.

Payment Methods

KLM accepts a broad spectrum of payment methods depending on the country from which you made your booking. If you are reserving your tickets from the Australian KLM site, you can pay via credit card, debit card, bank transfer or Boletos/BPAY. For credit cards, transact using MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Diners Club. However, take note that while no fees are applied to debit card transactions, payments using credit card may be subject to a service fee. If you opt to pay by bank transfer, please ensure that you book at least 2 weeks in advance of your departure date.

On-Time Performance

KLM’s on-time performance is exceptional, and within the last year the airline has remained in the top 20 global carriers for coming in on time. More recently, KLM has topped the charts with its arrival performance at 92% in April 2016.
