Edmonton is a decent city, but lacks the draw of large businesses, nightlife, and interesting foodie options. The frigid cold weather in winter does not help in making the province's Capital a less than ideal spot to visit. If you do find yourself traveling to the "City of Champions," you may want to visit in the summer months (June-August) unless you're looking for some outdoor winter activities.

I have lived in Edmonton all my life, and I love it here! There are lots of awesome things to see and do especially in the summer time with the fringe festival, the folk festival, and k days. We have a beautiful art museum, and lots of interesting and delicious places to eat (noorish for vegans!)

Edmonton is the capital of the Province of Alberta, and the city itself has a population of over three quarters of a million people, actually more than the population of San Francisco. The greater metropolitan area is over 1.1 million. This is a corporate staging point for a lot of activity farther north, where tar sands and shale oil are being reclaimed for an energy hungry continent. Consequently the petro-chemical industries are strong local employers. It is the fifth largest city in Canada, and although is is farther north than its sisters in Saskatchewan, Regina and Winnipeg, the climate is actually drier and warmer. The city loves their Oilers hockey team, and their CFL football team, the Eskimos, have won the grey cup in the past.

Edmonton is a typical northern community. It's cold and there are limited outdoor activities to do. West Edmonton Mall was once something spectacular but it is showing it's age and other malls have caught up to it. It's still worth seeing.
