Where to hire a car at Calgary International Airport
There are eight on-airport car rental companies currently providing services from the Calgary International Airport. Their desks are located on the departures level across the roadway from the main terminal building, which can also be accessed by the elevator lobby across the arrivals roadway. The area is called the Rental Car Centre. Companies that operate out of the Rental Car Centre include Avis, Budget, Dollar Rent-A-Car service, Thrifty, Enterprise rent-a-car service, Hertz, National, and Almo. These companies provide various types of vehicles, from personal two-door cars to family vans, all the way to limousines for business ventures or night outs. The airport also has access to two off-airport rental companies, namely Discount Car and Rental Services, and Routes Car and Truck Rentals. The off-airport rental companies are connected to the airport by a courtesy shuttle service, which can be accessed through bus bay #6 on the arrivals roadway. All bookings can be handled through the Rental Car Centre, or through the respective airport websites. Should the travellers decide to book with any of the off-airport car rental companies, they should contact the said car rental companies in advance for their pick-up dates at the airport.
All travellers who are planning to book (either through the airport or through channels) rental cars are advised to prepare all necessary documents, including identification documents, driver's license, proof of payment (credit cards, etc) and others, as these items may be asked by the service providers.
What to expect when hiring a car from Calgary International Airport
The Calgary International Airport is located in a strategic area near the major city of Calgary. It is connected to the AB-2 S, the Trans Canada Highway, the Deer Foot Trail, the Stoney Trail NW, and many other roads. Traffic is relatively light in this area, and most places do not have even the slightest traffic build up, due to the wideness of the roads. There are certain twisting sections on the road though, while a few sections are elevated, so make sure to drive carefully and tediously so as to avoid any untoward incidents.
Driving around Calgary International Airport
The Calgary International Airport is very much near its city of service, Calgary. Calgary is located 20 minutes away from the airport, just some 19.8 kilometres from the facility. To get to Calgary, travellers should get on AB-2 S from Airport Road NE and 96 Ave NE/Airport Trail NE W, towards 4 Ave SE W, and on to 5 Ave SE W. Travellers will pass by the Bow River here, and while certain sections do have traffic build-ups (due to one or two road construction sites), driving from the airport to the city is relatively easy. Upon arrival to the centre, travellers will be welcomed to the grid-like structure of the city, along with numerous retail stores, restaurants, and even hotels. Banks, as well as leisure establishments, can also be accessed from here, although travellers are advised to note about the roads, as most of the passageways within the city is only open to one-way traffic. Other than that, the drive is spectacular – no hassles, no toll fees - just the breezy Calgary air.
Getting to your destination

Home to the Prince's Island Park, Prince's Island is a section of Calgary, and a stand-alone urban park that is frequented by travellers who are peaking through what Calgary has to offer.
Reach the Prince's Island Park from the airport by following the same directions when going to central Calgary, but instead, access Eau Clair Ave SW after 4 Ave SE W instead of 5 Ave SE W. Upon arrival to the area, travellers will cross the thin section of the Bow River through boat, or simply drive through the Bow River Pathway.
Edmonton is a wonderful destination that is the gateway to some of the best cross-country skiing.
From the Calgary International Airport, reach Edmonton by driving through the AB-2 N towards the Calgary Trail Northbound NW N/Gateway Blvd NW in Edmonton, and continuing until they reach the 100 St NW. Note that roads in Canada have their own orientation, so make sure to use the correct road.
