Information on London Heathrow Airport

Situated 25km from London’s city centre is London Heathrow (LHR). This airport is the premier aviation hub for the country. There are five other city airports, Gatwick (LGW), Stansted (STN), Luton (LUT), London City (LCY), and London Southend (SEN), but Heathrow welcomes more flight routes than any airport in the United Kingdom. You can also easily reach this airport from central London via the underground, rail, buses, shuttles and taxis.

Passengers flying from Heathrow will have 170 direct destinations at your disposal, and hundreds of connecting routes to all corners of the globe.

For domestic routes, British Airways is the main operating carrier. However, for international routes, you can fly with Air India, Qantas, Aegean Airlines, Air China, Eurowings, Air Canada, SAS, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Alitalia, Oman Air, Virgin Atlantic, Delta, United, American Airlines, Aer Lingus, and Swiss Air.

Where is it popular to go?

For domestic journeys, it is a quick flight to trendy Glasgow (GLA) or beautiful Edinburgh (EDI) in Scotland, and you can rent a car and explore the raw wilderness of the remarkable Highlands.

London Heathrow is also an ideal base to explore Europe, with short-haul 3-4 hour trips out to historic Istanbul (IST) the city where Asia meets Europe, or to legendary Athens (ATH) where the ancient Greeks invented democratic government, the Olympics, and theatre as we know it.

But you can discover hundreds of different cities from around the world, such as the United States gleaming white capital of Washington DC (IAD, DCA or BWI), the sun-kissed shores of South Africa’s Cape Town (CPT), or the sultry and sassy city of Rio de Janeiro (GIG), host of the 2016 Olympics, and Brazil’s most visited city.
