Guayaquil Airport

The José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE), also simply know as the Guayaquil Airport, is the key aviation gateway to the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador. Named for the famed Ecuadorian poet, José Joaquín de Olmedo, this airport has been connecting Guayaquil to the rest of the world for the past 10 years.

This is a modern airport with a single terminal, and a lot of excellent amenities. There are several executive lounges, massage services, lockers for luggage, a pharmacy, showers, and a chapel passengers can utilise.

Connecting with friends and family is easy with the provided free WiFi, and getting out cash and changing it over is also a cinch at the numerous ATMs, and currency exchange booths.

Food concessions at this airport are good, with many open 24 hours. You will find a few restaurants, cafes, snack bars, bistros, and coffee shops that you can pick up food from. There’s a duty-free outlet that sells goods like cosmetics, tobacco, alcohol, perfumes, accessories, and confectionary. You can also duck into a few gift shops and convenient stores.

From cities in Australia you can link to Guayaquil via carriers like LATAM, Air New Zealand, COPA, Delta, Avianca, and Qantas. As it is likely you will be subject to layovers, it is worth making the most of them, check out our tips on how to enjoy the scheduled stops on your route.

Get on the Av de Las Americas, then get onto Calle 9 No/Victor Emilio Estrada, and onto Av Miraflores to get into the city.

·         It is recommended that you check with your hotel to see if they offer shuttle transfers along with their accommodation price, otherwise, book an airport transfer with Skyscanner’s search tools.

·         Taxis are available outside the Arrivals Hall of the terminal buildings, and these run 24 hours a day. Make sure you hop in the authorised taxis for a swift and safe journey. The fare should be about 6USD/150000ECS ($8).
