Good-sized market town that is the home of Winchester Cathedral and Winchester College, one of the top public schools in England and one of the oldest ones (i.e. included in the Clarendon report). It's scenic with a lot of shops, reasonable hotels/motels and things to do. Also a point of entrance to the South Downs Way.
Beautiful commuter town southwest of London. Lots of history, good restaurants, nice shops. Fun to explore an love many of the shop specific signs over the various shops!
I lived here for a number of years and would happily visit again. It has history in the Cathereral and other local churches ( find the one above the arch!, it has green spaces to relax and lovely old pubs if you look for them. Food is cheap if you look around and there is lots to see and do: The Round Table, The old castle, the city walls, Wolvesey castle, St Catherines Hill, The Water Meadows, the Water Mill, Jane Austen's house ( now the Mayors house ), the Gates and its lovely town centre.
What an amazing place to come and visit!
