This is small cutesy town on Lago Llanquihue. There is some nice handicraft shops here and you can walk around the entire town in a short time. New Radisson (re-branded) has nice toilets and internet.
Puerto Varas, the town with two faces. Everybody meets here, international backpackers, Chilean tourists from the North, bird watchers, motor bikers, trekking experts and novices, animal lovers, notorious gamblers. But there is also another Puerto Varas, a more and less charming Puerto Varas, home of the poor and home of the street dogs. I love that town for its diversity and ambiguity. Unfortunately a majority of the tourists coming here just scratch the surface but if you dive deep into it you will find so many interesting observations in language, culture, nature, architecture and nearly every aspect of life. Puerto Varas is a must see if you come to Southern Chile. It is one of the pearls of the region Los Lagos. Not only because its cafes really hit it - the local Kuchen, an heritage brought in by the German immigrants, is just delicious. Make sure to try the torta, too. You won't regret it!
Close to Osorno, and not far from the lake crossing to Argentina. You can easily from from Santiago to Puerto Montt and do the lake crossing over to Argentina. This area is quite beautiful. You can see the Volcano's, Saltos de Petrohue or go off the beaten track to Chiloe. There is no shortage of things to see or do in both these countries. It will depend largely on your interests, time and budget. Watch out for the the Chilean Volcano that has kept the Bariloche airport closed for months. Check ahead to be sure if you are considering a visit to Bariloche. Good luck!
Hermoso lugar, gran paisaje, exquisita comida
