The National Parks here rival any you’d find on the African continent, or the larger island of Madagascar, and you can travel on wildlife safaris around the island for a little adventure. You can also spend your days touring the lively cities of this country known for its delicious cuisine and friendly locals, or laying back upon beaches that would rival any famed stretches across the world. Magical Mauritius lies in wait, come and discover it.

Things to do in Mauritius

Find your way around paradise bit by bit. Start with the interior of these islands, and the incredible landscape therein, such as the Black River Gorges, home to the rare pink pigeon, and perfect for hiking if you love forests, gorges, waterfalls and rivers. In fact, if you like waterfalls, you should see the island’s highest at Chamarel, where the waters cascade down from a 100 metre height. This is also the home of the Seven Coloured Earth, undulating sand dunes that ripple in pinks, purples, and yellows.

You can learn a bit about the history of this island, and its current industry by visiting the beautiful tea plantations, the sugarcane fields, and the rum distilleries, such as the one at the impressive Chateau de Labourdonnais.

Then head for the coasts, where you will first find the capital of Mauritius, Port Louis, which has its own singular charm, such as its exotic Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolan Botanical Gardens, known especially for its ponds filled with giant lily pads. See the Blue Penny Museum, and the lovely Jummah Mosque, or for the adventurous; hike the summit of the Pieter Both Mountain that overlooks the city.

Then there are the beaches, undoubtedly the true star of Mauritius. See the stretches by La Morne, or the glorious golden expanses of Iles Aux Cerfs, on the outer isle, or work on your tan on the sands of the beautiful Bell Mare Beach.
