Largely ignored by the greater travel community, Ukraine is one of those countries that is ready to burst onto the international holiday scene. With an undulating terrain that moves from soaring mountains, to rushing rivers, pristine lakes, and Black Sea beaches, you will find yourself inspired by the landscape of the Ukraine. But attractions of this country aren’t limited to its scenery, as nestled within this land are the historic centres of Odessa, Yalta, Lviv and Kyiv, cities that are just waiting for you to discover them.

Things to do in the Ukraine

You cannot skip Kiev if you a planning a trip to the Ukraine, in fact, we recommend it as a first stop. This city clustered around the Dnipro River, and forms a skyline made up of medieval monasteries, golden-topped churches, and monolithic Soviet monuments. This metropolis is the heart and soul of modern Ukraine, and should be added to any itinerary to this nation.

There are two other cities that will grab your attention; these are Odessa, the Pearl of the Black Sea, which boasts sun-kissed beaches, a gorgeous Baroque Opera House, and fascinating catacombs. The other is the historical city of Lviv, where you can tour Rynok Square, the Armenian flavour of Virmenska Street, and the incredible Olesko Castle just outside the city.

Then explore the beautiful terrain of the country by diving into the valleys, forests, and hamlets that spring up between the towering Carpathian Mountains. Or head to the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, where you can traipse through Europe’s largest wetland, and spot the incredible variety of birdlife found here.

Each season has its advantages, but expect the hottest months in summer to average 26°C, and the coldest to sink to -3°C.
