Discover Yangon
The Yangon International Airport (RGN) is the primary international aviation facility for Myanmar as a whole, and its capital city of Yangon. Situated an easy 15km distance from the downtown area of Yangon, this is a convenient hub to fly into if you are looking to explore this city, or the mysterious climes of this beautiful country. This airport has undergone an extensive modernisation and is now able to handle six million passengers annually.
You’ll find that there are all the standard amenities needed whilst transiting through Yangon, these include WiFi throughout the international terminal, several internet kiosks, and public telephones. Added to this, there are several currency exchange counters, and an ATM. There are a few cafes within the terminals where you can grab a bite to eat, and there are duty-free shops and gift stores you can browse in. Other provisions include several lounges, information desks, and hotel booking counters to help you get started in the city.
Fly to this city with China Airlines, ANA, Air India, Vietnam Airlines, SilkAir, Cathay Pacific, Bangkok Airways, Vietnam Airlines, and Singapore Airlines. If you are flying to Yangon, you will almost certainly be diverted through at least one city. Typically a layover to Yangon will fly through Singapore (SIN), Bangkok (BKK), or Hong Kong (HKG).
Travel Information
· Take Yangon Airport Road to Radio Station Road heading southeast, and then hop onto Thudhamma Road to reach the centre of the city. If you are planning on hiring a car, it might be worth it to use our car hire search tool, which can allow you to book in advance and save you a good deal of money. Otherwise, the tourist information desks in the airport can help you rent a car while you are staying in Yangon. Please note, that usually your car hire will also come with a driver.
· You can get trains into the city, but you will have to take a taxi to the station anyway. However, this is one of the cheapest ways into town, with the rail journey alone coming to about 1300MMK/1USD ($1.30).
· Grabbing a taxi will cost you about 10USD, and will take you about half an hour to get into the city. You can also arrange an airport transfer with us if you’d prefer, which can be booked to pick you up when you arrive.
