Burkina Faso, formerly the Republic of Upper Volta, is a semi-presidential republic in West Africa, landlocked by six countries. The country's 274,200 km2 territory is completely surrounded by Mali to the north, Niger to the east, Benin to the southeast, Togo and Ghana to the south, and Ivory Coast to the southwest. The capital is Ouagadougou. Burkina Faso is very poor, even by West African standards, and is one of the poorest countries in the world. Regardless, many tourists come to Burkina to see a beautiful West African country and to observe African culture and music.

Cascades de Karfiguéla - Also known as Banfora Cascades, Cascades de Karfiguéla are a series of waterfalls along the Komoé River, situated about 12 km northwest of Banfora. It is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions and important tourism sites in the country.

Lake Tengrela - Near Banfora is a small lake called Lake Tengrela, known for its hippopotamuses. As with the crocodiles, these hippopotamuses are believed not to attack humans because they are sacred hippopotamuses. Crocodiles are almost ever seen in Lake Tengrela.
