What to expect when renting a car from Kuala Lumpur
Road quality in Kuala Lumpur is currently at its peak nowadays, primarily due to the thrust of the government to improve on the transportation around the area. This has produced good quality roads; however due to this, most travellers around the city now prefer driving and has induced traffic jams. Traffic is usually very heavy between 8:00-10:00 in the morning and late in the afternoon until early in the evening, so make sure to avoid these times at all costs. If it can't be avoided though, just pack in some patience and drive carefully.
The advancements also created a complicated web of expressways, and although they are efficient, they can be a bother to travellers who will be driving for the first time in the city. This can be remedied by having a chauffeured car to begin with, or at least have GPS/maps within your rental vehicles. This way, you may safely navigate the area without getting lost, or without asking for directions, especially if you cannot speak in the local language. When it comes to parking, do not park on roads within the busy districts such as Bangsar or Bukit Bintang as other cars might lock the vehicle in and park next to the space. Covered parks are preferable, although some who would do not wish to pay for parking fees can simply park a few yards away from the main streets – on the off beaten paths – and just walk back.
