Wellington International Airport

Wellington International Airport is situated around 7km by road from Wellington city centre, a journey which takes around 15 minutes by car. The airport was formerly known as Rongotai Airport, and is the third busiest airport in New Zealand, behind Auckland Airport and Christchurch Airport.

Wellington International Airport Information

Wellington Airport offers a wide range of facilities for those travelling through it. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the terminal, as well as a number of internet kiosks and public payphones located throughout the terminal building.

For those travelling to or from an international destination who need to exchange currency, there are currency exchange desks located on level 1, as well as a kiosk on level 0 of the arrivals area. There are also a number of ATMs located throughout the terminal building if you need to withdraw cash as New Zealand dollars.

For those with babies, there is a family-friendly parents’ room in the main terminal on level 1. The airport also has a Conference Centre with meeting facilities for those who need to conduct business without travelling to the CBD. The Conference Centre is located on level 2 of the main terminal.

There are plenty of shopping options, and a range of stores at the airport offer duty free goods, cosmetics, clothing, gifts, as well as newspapers, books and magazines. Dining options are also plentiful, with the airport offering 13 assorted food outlets, including cafes, fast food chains, bars and restaurants serving a number of international cuisines.

Travel Information

There are a number of transport options to and from Wellington Airport. The Airport Flyer express bus service runs from Wellington International Airport to the Hutt Valley, through the centre of Wellington, and then onwards to Queensgate. Buses run every 20 minutes, and depart from the southern end of the terminal on the ground floor. Free Wi-Fi is available on board.

Taxis and shuttles are also available to and from Wellington Airport. Taxis are operated by a number of local cab companies, and taxi ranks are outside the baggage claim area on the ground floor of the main terminal. Shuttle bus services are also operated by Super Shuttle, and are ideal for groups travelling together, since prices are much cheaper than cabs.
