Ahmedabad Airport

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) serves the city of Ahmedabad, India and has done for over 70 years. It is the primary facility connecting this city to the rest of the world, offering 19 destinations in India, and the Middle East, with a couple of routes to Europe and Asia. Roughly seven million passengers pass through this airport, making this one of the busiest aviation hubs in the state of Gujarat.

The facilities that you’ll find here aren’t hugely extensive, but they are decent, and will cover all of your major needs while travelling. In terms of communication, you will be able to access wireless internet for free for the first half an hour—though you can purchase a week’s pass for 100INR ($2). Banking features include ATMs, and bureau de change services.

The dining and shopping options are limited, but you can enjoy local and international cuisine in the restaurants and cafes. For shopping, there are gifts and souvenirs on offer, as well as some reading materials, confectionary and drinks you can pick up on the fly.

Extras include an information desk you can utilise, massage chairs, medical services, an O2 Spa, and mobile charging stations.

Airlines that operate out of Ahmedabad are IndiGo, SpiceJet, Kuwait Airways, Air Arabia, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Air India.

Travel Information

·         To get into town you must follow the International Airport Road to Airport Road, and continue on this street until you see the exit for Dafnala Road. Again continue on this until you see another exit for Swami Vivekananda Road, and this will take you to the centre of town. The drive should only be 25 minutes as the distance is roughly 10km. There are agencies in the airport, and you can rent a car through these companies, or online and in advance. Be aware that these cars often offer an option of a driver included, which we highly recommend.

·         There are bus routes into town, but these don’t come frequently, and can be confusing. It is generally advised that if you aren’t planning on taking a taxi, or rental car, to book a private airport transfer which can be organised in advance, and pick you up when you arrive.

·         Taxis can be taken right outside the airport, and you can pre-pay the fare in the Arrivals Hall to be sure of a fixed price.
