Jakarta is Indonesia's capital and largest city. It is located on the northwest coast of the island of Java. Jakarta is the country's cultural, economic, and political centre. Both structures have a beautiful and charming architecture and are proof of the diversity and harmony that the city's culture possesses. Stroll along Jalan Surabaya if you fancy antique stuff. Visit the Old Town or the Old Batvia with several interesting museums to visit such as the Jakarta History Museum (Fatahillah Museum), Museum of Fine Art and Ceramic, as well as the Puppet Museum. There are plenty of other museums – the Jakarta Arts theatre, the Jakarta Textile museum, Proclamation Museum, Maritime Museum, and the Kite Museum. How to get around within Jakarta

Many transportation options are available depending on time and budget, given that Jakarta is a very populous city. It is one of the few cities in the world that provides free tour buses, the City Tour Jakarta - double-decker buses that go around some of Jakarta's places of interest. Numerous bus companies operate in the streets of Jakarta. There are also commuter trains that connect the city centre with outlying regions. Private car rental is also a convenient option, and taxis are available anywhere.

How to get there

The main airport serving the greater Jakarta area is the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, located in Cengkareng (commonly what the airport is called by locals), 20 kilometres west of the capital city. It is named after the first President and the first vice-president of Indonesia. Over 40 airlines serve the airport that has three terminals that host over 45 million travellers every year. Terminal 2 is dedicated for international arrivals along with domestic flights from Garuda and Merpati Airlines. Busiest international routes include Singapore with Air France, Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar Asia, Lion Air, Singapore Airlines, Sriwijaya Air, Tigerair, and Turkish Airlines.
