A place with a stunning view of the ocean, an old fishermen's village you must visit, having a lunch and enjoying the cool breeze that comes from the sea
If you go to Nazaré be sure to continue on to Sitio located on the cliff top north of the town. This is where the world famous 100ft surfing wave happens and there is an fascinating museum inside the old fort dedicated to, and explains the reason for, this phenomenon.
One of most traditional fishing villages in Portugal. Location of Macnamarra's surfing record. Worth a visit!
Nazaré beach, with its mild climate and natural beauty, has one of the most ancient traditions connected to fishing in Portugal. The long sandy half-moon shaped beach, which is also the town’s sea front, is known for its grandeur and for the brightly-coloured awnings that decorate the white sandy beaches, contrasting with the blue of the water. This is the beach in Portugal that retains the more colourful fishing traditions, and it’s not uncommon to encounter fishmongers who still wear the traditional seven skirts.
